DIORAMA: AENUR SWORD OF TWILIGHT VS THE UNDERTAKER. YEAR: 2015.

Somthing moves among the ruins of Mordheim. A soft creak opens the cemetery door and an imperceptible flash sneaks quietly through the gravestones. It is said that his sword is so fast that other elves cannot follow it reflection and so sharpened that even Gromril armuors are pierced like fine paper. Fear the Mordheim champion because Aenur, Sword of Twilight is nearby and your band could be slaughtered in seconds. Welcome to the city of the damned, welcome to Mordheim:

And so it is because the post of today is very special. We bring you a new diorama that was proclamated WINNER of the Duel/Diorama/Open category from Games Workshop Zaragoza 2015 painting contest.
It is a very curious scene because presents a dark and dismal environment. If the devastated city of Mordheim is something that the bravest warriors fear, imagine its cemetery. What a vile and terrifying beasts and living death can dwell among the abandoned tombs!

But first let's talk about the model that appear. Between them there is one of the most emblematic Mordheim characters: Aenur, Sword of Twilight. He is a mercenery and the toughest hero of the game, at least at its original version. The model is a trully Games Workshop icon.
The other character is the cemetery undertaker, a mad and unhinged human that still dwells among the ruins of Mordheim protecting something that was an honored job for him in the old days. The duel they both fight is just epic

Aenur has been masterly painted using airbrush both his cloak and sword in order to create the reflections that the moonlight produces on it. In addition the armour and metallic parts have been performed with non metallic metal technique.

On the other side, the undereaker is a model performed from an imperial Flagellant. We have added some extra elements built with modeling putty such as the shield ot the hat. It is a very funny miniature that fits perfectly in the diorama.

We have care about the atmosphere because we wanted to develop this duel under the moonlight. Walls, ground and gravestones have been painted with airbrush but we haven't wanted to light too much any element in order to emphasize darkness.

As a abandoned graveyard, almost all the vegetation is already dead and has invaded the space where people use to walk. You can find from death fallen leaves all over the floor to withered bushes and trees.

One of the best works we have performed lately and we are very happy to repeat this phrase often. What's your opinon? Do you like it? Leave us your comments below and remember that any opinion is welcome.
Thanks for your time and greetings!

DWARF DRAGON SLAYER. GAMES WORKSHOP ZARAGOZA PAINTING CONTEST. YEAR: 2015.

We have already published a few posts about Warhammer Dwarfs, but none of them it's as much special as this one.
The last 31th of December, Games Workshop Zaragoza had an important painting contest that gathered fans from the whole city. Taking this event as a challenge, two Grupo Afternoon painters decided to perform the same model in order to sign them on in the contest and make a step by step post about their painting processes.

The chosen miniature was the Games Workshop Dragon Slayer. One of the model won its category and was proclaimed absolute champion. Do you want to know which was the winner? You'll see it at the end of this post!

BORJA'S DRAGON SLAYER STEP BY STEP

The base was created with tree bark in order to simulate some rocks.

It was primed in black and then sprayed with grey. This technique marks where the most illuminated points are located in the model.

Check out the wonderful work performed in the axe.

Legs were painted separately in order to work more comfortable and get better results in the pants.

And this is the final look:

Do you see the pants? They are one of the best parts of the model along with the axes.

Borja decided to remove the original rock with dragon shape. Instead of that, his Dragon Slayer is jumping directly from the tree bark.

RICARDO'S DRAGON SLAYER STEP BY STEP

We applied the same technique than the previous Dragon Slayer, but lights were marked from other direction because this Dragon Slayer was going to be in a different pose.

In this case we did included the original dragon rock.

As you see, the bases are pretty similar, but vegetation and colors are differents.

This Dragon Slayer was painted fully assembled. Instead of painting lines, Ricardo decided to wear his dwarf with ripped pants.

We want to highlight the work performed in the eyes: they have pupils!

Ricardo painted a blonde Dragon Slayer instead of the classic red haired.

Final result:

Which one is your favourite Dragon Slayer?
