LEGOLAS GREENLEAF AND GIMLI AND LEGOLAS FROM THE THREE HUNTERS. YEAR: 2014.

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are the main topic of this week with three individual characters: Legolas Greenleaf and Gimli and Legolas from the Games Workshop pack "the Three Hunters".
These miniatures represent the contrast between the old and new designs. There are around 10 years of difference between the release of the Three Hunters and the new Legolas from the Hobbit, and obviously, technology advances. However, there are no more large Lord of the Rings armies or suplements anymore, and unfortunately Hobbit model sales are very low. Pity because they are nice, perfect for playing, collecting or building scenes.

LEGOLAS GREENLEAF

This is the favourite of our customer. It belongs to a serie of models that Games Workshop launched for the release of the Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug. You can see that the general design has been improved including a very dinamic pose.

The colour scheme is the same than the original of Games Workshop based on the films. Although simple, it is a great model.

GIMLI, SON OF GLOIN

Let's start the Three Hunters miniatures but first we want to place this Gimli in a concrete point of the Lord of the Rings story: after Merry and Pippin being captured for the Uruk-hais of Orthanc and Frodo and Sam started to travel by theirselves to Mordor, our heroes Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli decided to chase the orc band in order to rescue the captured hobbits.

Pose and clothes transmit movement and alert. Remembering his backstory, Gimli was chasing the Uruk band closer. Here he is ready to give a blow with his axe. We have also painted Gimli and Legolas with the original Games Workshop colors.

LÉGOLAS FROM THE THREE HUNTERS

This Legolas carries all his equipment packed except his elven bow, ready to shot at any moment. As his mate Gimli, his clothes and pose reflect perfectly the point of the story where they are.

Clothes are very functional, light and adapted to a great mobility with the bow. In addition, colors has been thought in order to offer some camouflage. If you pay attention, green color goes from black in the deeper folds from almost Goblin Green at his shoulders and hoodie.

The few golden details such us the quiver or daggers highlight over the rest of the model.

THE FORBIDDEN POOL OF ITHILIEN. THE LORD OF THE RINGS. YEAR: 2014.

When Frodo and Sam are catched by Faramir crossing the lands of Ithilien, by the night, Gollum is detected around the Forbidden Pool, the entrance of the cave where the troops of Gondor are hidden.

It is also known as Henneth Annûn, a secret refuge for the rangers and scouts that fight against the forces of Mordor. It was built behind a waterfall by the course of the water and was discovered by Turín II of Gondor TA 2901.

Faramir explains to Frodo and Sam that any who dares to enter at the Forbidden Pool must die. However, in the last moment, Frodo decides to save the life of Smeagol and allow the rangers capturing him intead. Smeagol doesn't know anything and feels betrayed.

But do not imagin it when we have pictures of the scene. Go ahead!

We have used Rangers of the Middle-Earth as Gondorian rangers.

The waterfall has been made with fishing line. A great idea when you have few resources.

FARMER MAGGOT AND HIS DOGS. THE LORD OF THE RINGS. YEAR: 2014.

Maggot, better known as Farmer, is a hobbit from the Shire who lives in the Marish region of Eastfarthing. He use to gather the murshrooms that grow abundantly there. Maggot is a close friend of Tom Bombadil  as it is told in the Unfinished Tales. When Frodo was just a little kid, he met Maggot in one of their incursions to the farm in order to thieve some of those valued mushrooms.

He owns a farm near to Bucklebury ferry where he lives along with his wife, his five sons and other hobbits as employees. He helped Frodo, Pippin and Sam when the Black Riders where persecuting the hobbits (in the films this is not represented). After a succulent supper, he took them until the road of Bucklebury where they should meet Merry to cross the river direction to Crickhollow. 

Pay attention at the details. The scene is full of them, for example, the pumpkins.

The dogs of Maggot are his loyal friends.

Maggot is an expert farmer: his wheat is as tall as him.

BATTLE AT PELENNOR FIELDS. MÛMAK OF HARAD AGAINST EOWYN AND ROHAN RIDERS. THE LORD OF THE RINGS. YEAR: 2014.

This is, without doubt, one of the most spectacular scenes we have ever built.

For those who unknow what we are talking about, it is the Battle of Pelennor fields, the most legendary and important battle of the Lord of the Rings.

Sauron sents its enormous army against Gondor. After taking the city of Osguiliath, its next target is Minas Tirith, the last stand of Gondor and the capital of the realm. Orcs, Trolls and Nazgûls...all together fighting the last resistence of men in the Middle-Earth.
Between the troops of Sauron, there are corrupted men recently arrived from Harad, Khând and other nations from the far east. Haradrim bring their deadliest weapon: the famous Mûmaks, gigant elephants with towers on its backs where the archers can aim to their foes.
When everthing seems to be lost for the forces of light, the riders of Rohan charge against one of the flanks of Sauron. Between this riders, Eowyn and Pippin are hidden and later they would kill the Witch King of Angmar.

You can see several Rohirrims all around the scene. There are many that are still alive fighting and others are already dead under the Mûmak paws.

IN THE CLUTHES OF SHELOB. THE LORD OF THE RINGS. YEAR: 2014.

When Smeagol decided to lead Sam and Frodo to the Shelob's lair in order to recover the Ring, he really made a master plan.

Smeagol guided the Hobbits climbing the Winding Staircase of Cirith Ungol which ends directly in the Shelob's lair. Luckily, Sam was brave and protected the Ring bearer fighting the giant Spider. That's exactly what we have wanted to capture with our scene!
